The 2025 Jubilee Year 'Pilgrims of Hope' is now underway. The Jubilee Year began with the opening of the Holy Door in St Peter's Basilica in Rome, on Tuesday 24 December 2024 and runs to the Feast of Epiphany 2026.

On Sunday, 29 December 2024, Bishop Mark celebrated Holy Mass in Shrewsbury Cathedral to mark the solemn opening of the Jubilee Year for our Diocese, using the ritual indications that will be provided for that occasion. The Cathedral and St Joseph’s Eucharistic Shrine in Stockport-our parish church have been designated as  Jubilee places of pilgrimage for our Diocese, and the launch event for St Joseph’s will take place on the 12th of January 2025. Children from St Joseph's Primary School will be representing the school at this special Mass led by the Bishop.

In this Jubilee Year, Pope Francis hopes that the light of Christian hope illumines every man and woman as a message of God’s love addressed to all and that the Church will bear faithful witness to this message in every part of the world.

Here are just some of the Jubilee Celebrations we have planned for this special year:

Saint Paul’s letter to the Romans 8:35, 37-39

Who, then, can separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble do it, or hardship or persecution or hunger or poverty or danger or death? No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us! For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below—there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Saint Paul’s letter to the Romans 15:13

May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.
